Shinrin-Yoku Forest Bathing

Deb Denome, Certified Forest Therapy Guide, will guide you in two hours of Shinrin-Yoku, a Japanese practice that roughly translates into "forest bathing" or immersing in the medicine of the forest (fully clothed!).  Whether you are in Nature all the time or are reluctant to walk in the wilds alone, on this Shinrin-Yoku walk you will be skillfully guided into a gentle, enjoyable, full sensory experience of our natural world.  Your mind can rest as you sink into invitations that engage your senses...taking in the images, sounds, aromas, breath, touch and wisdom of the forest.  Insights received are often profound.  The walk will be concluded with a tea ceremony of foraged plants to incorporate the forest within us.

In the case of inclement weather, Deb, also an herbalist, will lead us in an indoor herbal immersion to make and take luscious herbal treats for body, mind and spirit.

Restorative Yoga

Liz Laneri, a certified yoga teacher and licensed massage therapist, will guide you in a 90 minute restorative yoga workshop. You'll experience floor-based gentle and restful postures with hands-on assists and energy work (if interested but not necessary). This self-care workshop will help you release tension, soften your eyes, and ease your mind. You'll leave feeling more rejuvenated and relaxed. If you have a yoga mat, feel free to bring it with you.  Please bring a pillow and blanket from home. If you don't have a mat, one will be provided along with yoga blocks. No previous yoga experience necessary.

EatsAsana

EatsAsana is a nourishing pop-up duo of yoga and food. We bring yoga and food directly to you! Mackenzie Zerniak, queen of eats and Liz Laneri, yoga boss, combine super powers to bring a seasonal curated meal and personalized yoga session into your home or private event. Creating an atmosphere filled with fun movement and good food, invite your friends and family for an in-home gathering.

About Liz

When people ask me how often I do yoga, I tell them I think of my yoga practice like meals, I can't skip it. If food is to yoga as yoga is to breath, well then, here we are.  Beyond my love of food, much of my energy is focused on movement and bodywork.  As a certified yoga teacher from the Boston Yoga School and licensed massage therapist, I value everything the body has to offer us.  It only makes sense to me to combine my love of food with yoga, and sharing it with friends and family.  We hope you will also feel inspired by food, friends and yoga and share it within your space.

About Mackenzie

In Fall of 2014, I graduated from The Natural Gourmet Institute in New York City. During culinary school, my passion for food developed beyond just my plate. I began by seeking out where my food came from, who grew it, and how it was grown.  It is my quest to nourish the community by carefully selecting ingredients and crafting menu's that reflect the abundance from our local region that nutritionally benefit our beings.  By nourishing our sacred bodies with yoga and food (that makes you feel good), we can ultimately learn about who we are and how we can sustain ourselves at the deepest level.

About Deb

Deb Denome is a Certified Forest Therapy Guide, Horticultural Therapist and co-owner of Finger Lakes Forest Immersion.  The forest has been her refuge and muse since childhood and her greatest joy is in helping others to deepen their own relationship with the Earth, each other, and our own true nature.  Since 1997, Deb has also served as Director of Director of Shimmering Light Farm & Renewal Center, a non-profit educational organization that explores, models and inspires more conscious and restorative ways of life.

January 22 – 24, 2016

January is the perfect time for resting, renewing, and visioning the year ahead. Come gather around the fire and sink into the crystalline quiet while deeply nourishing yourself. We will develop relationships with herbs that help us hear our inner guidance and restore our body and spirit for the coming seasons.

You will learn how to weave herbs into your daily rhythms to:

  • Replace exhaustion with energy, stamina and resilience.

  • Calm stress and anxiety and access your still, creative mind.

  • Deeply nourish your body…inside and out.

  • Connect to the winter and its power to impart clarity in our lives.

White Pine, Mugwort, Sage, Thyme, Oat and Holy Basil will be our main herb allies, amongst other plant beings that thrive at the farm. Immerse your heart, hands and senses into making herbal smudge, dream pillows, infusions and decoctions, bath soaks, sweet medicinal honeys, and meditation and body oil. We will also explore plants as they thrive outdoors and will weave in ceremony throughout the weekend.

Delectable, plant-based, gluten-free meals will be lovingly prepared: Friday evening dinner; Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner; Sunday breakfast.

This introductory level, weekend retreat is available to 8 participants.  It commences Friday at 5pm and concludes Sunday at noon.

Retreat facilitator, Deborah Denome, has been reveling in her relationship with vibrant plant allies for over 25 years. Her elders/teachers include the plants themselves, as well as Andrea & Matthias Reisen, Rosemary Gladstar, Angela Tiberio, Susun Weed, and Rocio Alarcon. Deborah is also a Horticultural Therapist and Director of Seeking Common Ground and Herb Haven, non-profit educational organizations dedicated to exploring and inspiring more conscious and restorative ways of life.
